A Smallville Man

Gerry and Randy were kind enough to each send me this video today.  It's a short, animated fan-film that does a great job of communicating what makes Superman tick.  Rather than weigh you down with a pre-amble, I suggest you go ahead and check it out.

As simple as such a film may be, it's shocking how difficult this sort of portrayal of Superman has become over the past two decades, be it in comics or movies or ten seasons of TV.

Why? What is controversial here? I don't get it. This film shows the essence of why Superman appeals to so many people 75 years after he arrived. If there is some critique of American foreign policy or the consequences of corporate interests on poor people, this little video made a political statement with far more nuance than that clumsy, idiotic citizenship story, and is far more relatable/defensible.

Or is it just not sexy enough?
