A few years ago, I started nosing around again and realized the 2000s were a pretty good time for comics. So I've been collecting stuff I missed over the previous ten years.

But now there's nothing worth collecting on a monthly basis. Marvel has opted for hyper-dramatic event based stories like Simon mentioned, instead of focusing on the characters and their worlds. Events like Secret Wars, Inferno and the Infinity Gauntlet were cool because they happened once every few years. I collected Spiderman for years before the "Acts of Vengeance" crossover.

Anyway, I got excited about the New 52 and well, you know. It seems pretty clear the high ups at DC and Marvel have no new ideas, and aren't really interested in expanding their audience. Their stories will revolve around finding ways to have Wolverine fight every other hero in the Marvel pantheon. Or discovering new ways to show Catwoman and Wonder Woman with as few clothes a possible. Either way, I'm bored with it. It also hits all the main points that have driven me out of super-hero comics from Marvel and DC:

1) Event based stories - check
2) Incessant crossovers - check
3) Stories that a neither mature nor suitable for younger readers - check
4) Total lack of editorial sanity - check

Right now, I'm not really buying books from the big 2. DC did me a favour a number of years back where they cancelled Robin, Nightwing, and Birds of Prey. I used to follow them regularly excepting when they were involved in a bigger Batman cross over. I even tried to love the DC new grabbing 12 titles but that quickly fell to the wayside.
Simon MacDonaldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14749383583517044214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7294499213897153104.post-63232689796039170922012-08-29T10:40:06.305-05:002012-08-29T10:40:06.305-05:00I'm certainly still reading comics. (recommended: Popeye).

I realized this morning I actually pick up three DC titles, not just the two Superman books. I'm also getting Batman: Incorporated.

Now that iZombie is done, I'm not really reading any Vertigo, but that could change in a heartbeat depending upon solicitations.

I wanted to want to read Authority as I am a Martian Manhunter nut, but I just couldn't do it. And now, I'm just not going to pick up books because I like the characters. I've read plenty of books where I liked the characters. I'm going to need some pretty serious convincing. The Leaguehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04836241071795980225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7294499213897153104.post-37756790837042474662012-08-29T02:07:46.020-05:002012-08-29T02:07:46.020-05:00Exactly the right length, did read.

I just like watching that kitten vomit acid-blood and killing stuff.

Vertigo, I'm still sticking with HellBlazer, Fables is always great.

Oh, and I read the collected trade of the Authority relaunch. It was like one of those casseroles where you like all the ingredients but it just isn't any good…Fantomenoshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02943650057872740425noreply@blogger.com
