What I learned is the power of friendship.  And the power of a right hook to knock someone through a skyscraper

-my nephew, aged 10

Today was the day I knew was coming since Jason and Amy told me they were pregnant.  Today, I watched a Godzilla movie with my nephew and niece.  And, I am proud to say, The Boy was into it.

The kids were dropped off, I provided candy and lemonade, and we all watched Godzilla vs. Kong (2021).  This movie had piqued The Boy's interest when I told him "yeah, there's a movie where you get to see Kong punch Godzilla in the face on top of an aircraft carrier".

absolute cinema!

I sort of think of Godzilla and Kong as an all-ages endeavor - recognizing that not all of the movies are actually for all-ages.  There's a reason I wanted to go with the pro-wrestling version of the monsters before we tried other version, and we're probably 8 years away from me thinking he's ready for Shin Godzilla.  And while Godzilla was not a key part of my childhood, the character was absolutely there in the background in movies, cartoons and toys.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun, and I think we're going to start doing Godzilla movies as a regular thing.  Luckily, there's several decades' worth of Godzilla to get through, but I am sure we'll move on to other franchises as well (we did watch some YouTube of the OG Godzilla and Kong outing that went over well).

The Girl was less into it, but that was the ADHD kicking in.  She played with the dog, which was great.  The dog thinks The Girl is the absolute best.  But she was also keenly aware "there's people in those buildings..." and was not pumped that my answer was "life is hard in a world with Titans".

After the film, I explained who King Ghidorah is, and that Ghidorah is the absolute worst, and that's why we love him.  We also checked out Gigan and King Caesar.  I think we have to watch Godzilla Final Wars, because both kids are in that stage of wanting to collect 'em all/ categorize, so might as well walk them through all the Godzilla monsters up to 2002 or so in one package.

Anyway, everyone please clap that I made it through the whole movie without pointing out the merits of Rebecca Hall to the kids.
