I mean, it's fine. I was delighted to see Tom Atkins show up. Watched it to see early Bruce Campbell. Didn't realize it would have Robert Z'Dar. And, hey - it's Richard Roundtree and William Smith!
But I am surprised it spawned 2 or more sequels (I'm not sure).
If anything, it's interesting to see a movie from 35 years ago about how one cop in uniform committing atrocities makes the whole concept of uniformed police fall apart - something Black characters seem not at all surprised by in the context of the film.
There's probably a fascinating remake to be made here.
I liked Laurene Landon. She was plucky!
