Windsor Watch: Abbot and Costello Meet the Mummy (1955)

Watched:  09/06/2026
Format:  TCM
Viewing:  First
Director:  Charles Lamont

Confession time:  I haven't really enjoyed Bud & Lou since I was a kid.  I remember we'd check out 8mm projectors and film from the library and watch their movies.  I was six.

Subsequent attempts to watch them have gone less well.

Well, I do like two other things:  classic movie monsters and Marie Windsor, and I figure two out of three ain't bad.

Bud & Lou are semi-stranded in Egypt and get involved with a cult, an ancient mummy, a murder and shady characters looking to make some money.

I dunno.

It's Abbott being a know-it-all and Costello yelling and running away.  You know the drill.  It works for me in about 7 minute chunks, but over a movie, it's a lot.

At least Marie looks good in a pith helmet.

I think this look could really take off again

There's not enough Windsor or Mummy in this movie for my liking, and a few too many riffs playing on the "Who's On First?" bit that Abbott and Costello built their career on (and which I did in 8th grade, winning the talent show with pal-Darren.  I didn't even know I was entered - we were MC'ing and thought it would be fun to do).

She's absolutely had it with people want to borrow her sarcophagus

I don't recommend this movie.  I was bored and sorting comics through the back half.
